Rescue Stories ⚠️ Trigger Warning

❤️‍🩹 Mertle’s Story

A little update on our brave girl, Mertle 🐾

Little Mertle had her leg amputated today after being transferred to another veterinary practice. She’s had a long, worrying weekend, and although the surgery did not go ahead as initially hoped while she was receiving emergency care, it became clear that transferring her was the best way for her to receive the urgent treatment she needed.

Because of the extended emergency care and the transfer, her bill has gone beyond the original quote, plus the shortfall we still need to raise approx £1½k . We’re praying nothing else goes wrong as she continues on her road to recovery.

We want to say a huge thank you to everyone who has already donated, shared, and supported Mertle. Your kindness and generosity have already made such a difference, and it truly means more than we can put into words. She’s just a tiny kitten, but she’s fighting so hard — and she wouldn’t be here without you 💕.

Please help if you can 🤍🐾

Stinky Pete update 🐾

January 2026

This “feral” cat? Not feral at all. He’s pure muscle — solid as a block of wood 🪵 yet somehow the sleepiest, most laid-back little giant you could meet. Truly one of the most relaxed cats I’ve ever known.

Hes been neutered, his wounds cleaned out & packed , shaved in places he'd rather not talk about 🙀 and has been successfully , bath and Hibiscus scrubbed all over 🌺

Although some kind humans were feeding Pete, he was still injured, bullied, and left to fend for himself. It’s heartbreaking to think what little chance he had to protect himself with his constant ongoing injuries and age.

Now, he deserves the best life imaginable. Once fully recovered, Stinky Pete will be looking for an indoor home — safe, warm, and full of love.
He’s tough. He’s brave. And he’s ready to finally know peace, comfort, and love 💛

Thank you for any donations that have been sent.
And for those that have cut up cheese or chicken & sneaked him some in-between meals, he's two favourite things ♡♡

Danica’s Story

November 2025

People often see the joyful side of animal rescue — the happy “adopted!” photos, the cuddly kittens finding their forever homes. But behind every happy ending, there are moments of heartbreak, exhaustion, and loss that most never see.

This is Danica’s story — a story that reminds us why rescue matters so deeply.

Danica came into Petsearch care, financially under Wild Acre (Pet~Acre), as a pregnant kitten herself — barely six months old, still a baby. Despite everything she’d been through, she was gentle, trusting, and so full of hope. We couldn’t wait to show her what safety and love felt like.

But sometimes, despite all the care and compassion in the world, nature can be unbearably cruel.

Danica went into labour and gave birth to seven stillborn kittens. 💔 Seven tiny lives gone before they even had a chance to begin.

She was weak but stable, resting quietly under our watch, grieving in her own way. She searched for her babies, calling softly — the kind of heartbreak that words can’t truly capture. We stayed beside her, whispering that she was safe, that she was loved, that her pain mattered.

Then, just when we thought the worst was behind her, things took a devastating turn. Late that evening, we noticed something wasn’t right — something pink protruding from her birth canal. We feared a prolapse, but our hearts sank when we realised the truth. It was another tiny kitten — stillborn. Kitten number eight… and possibly number nine. 💔

Danica was rushed to Black’s Vets for an emergency C-section and spay. Her condition had deteriorated quickly, and we feared sepsis. She was only a kitten herself, yet she was fighting for her life — all because someone, somewhere, hadn’t spayed her mother before she was born.

Thanks to the incredible efforts of the veterinary team, and the outpouring of love and donations from our supporters, Danica made it through surgery. 💜🐾
There were more complications and moments of worry, but this brave little girl refused to give up. Today, she’s recovering, safe and loved, surrounded by warmth and gentle hands.

She’s even managing to purr again.

Danica’s journey is a powerful reminder of what rescue truly is. It’s not just about saving lives — it’s about being there in the darkest hours. It’s holding space for grief, showing compassion when there are no words, and fighting for every single chance at life.

Every foster, every adopter, every donor, and every person who shares our posts — you are part of these stories. You make it possible for us to keep saying “yes” when others would have to say “no.”

If you can’t foster or adopt, please don’t turn away. You can still make a difference — by donating, sharing, feeding a stray, or simply showing kindness to an animal in need. Compassion doesn’t have to be grand — it just has to be real.

Please keep Danica in your thoughts as she continues to heal.
For every Danica who suffers, there’s another cat out there who might still have a chance — and together, we can give it to them. ❤️

With love and gratitude,
Petsearch Rescue & Wild Acre (Pet~Acre)
